EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The results from the Experts’ Assessment real-time Delphi survey point toward significant future shifts in how organizations operate.
The shock waves from the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuing supply chain disruptions, and ongoing global energy and food price crises continue to impact lives and organizations’ operations. Facility managers must consolidate operations into more experiential spaces, requiring new mindsets, business models and technologies.
Facility managers face several new realities, which include the following:
- Remote and hybrid work have become the norm in most offices.
- Most knowledge workers no longer need to come to the office to be innovative, collaborative or productive.
- Organizations struggle to entice workers back to office environments.
- Some organizations and managers remain wedded to traditional work practices that require in-office work.
- FM and other support functions are still assessing and coming to terms with the long-term implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Experts’ Assessment: New Ways of Working Toward 2030 study:
- Is based on the real-time Delphi methodology, in which industry-leading SMEs from around the world engaged in a consensus-seeking debate using quantitative and qualitative methods. The survey ran from late July to early September 2022, and 222 SMEs participated.
