“There is a lack of awareness and knowledge deficiency in the FM industry to sell the value of circular economy.”
Participants identified barriers that reflect both system-level constraints and cultural dynamics:
- Lack of awareness and knowledge within FM and client organizations
- Inadequate regulatory frameworks and weak policy enforcement
- Limited infrastructure, local supply chains and technology access
- Financial constraints and difficulty securing client investment
- Cultural perceptions that discourage reuse of second-hand goods
These barriers underline the importance of capacity building, enabling regulation and financial innovation to unlock circular economy potential in the African context.
International Facility Management Association (IFMA) supports over 25,000 members in 140 countries. Since 1980, IFMA has worked to advance the FM profession through education, events, credentialing, research, networking and knowledge-sharing.
